Methodology and Confidence
Understand exactly when CPP displays a verified fact, an attributed report or a Best Guess* estimate.
Never hide uncertainty
CTT's credibility depends on visible uncertainty. Verified means the field is supported by an authoritative record. Reported means an identified source has stated the information but CPP has not independently verified it. Best Guess* means the field is inferred from available evidence and may change as new records arrive.
Confidence scoring
Confidence reflects source authority, agreement between independent sources, recency, completeness, historical model performance and the strength of voyage-specific signals. A high-confidence estimate is still an estimate. The interface therefore displays the evidence class separately from the numeric confidence score.
Corrections and audit trail
Records should retain prior values, source changes, methodology versions and correction reasons. Institutional users can inspect the evidence trail behind important fields. Data contributors and vessel stakeholders should have a clear process to submit corrections without erasing the history of how a conclusion was reached.
