COMMODITY OVERLAY

Oil Overlay: Global Oil at Sea

Track estimated crude and refined-product flows worldwide, including how much oil is probably aboard commercial tankers, where it is moving and which companies or countries are exposed.

A live global oil inventory

The Oil Overlay converts tanker movements into a continuously updated estimate of oil in transit, waiting offshore, loading, discharging or functioning as floating storage. At global zoom, corridor bands summarize estimated barrels moving between major producing and consuming regions. At vessel zoom, each tanker displays its likely cargo category, estimated barrels, value range, loading origin, destination, voyage status and confidence.

How Best Guess* works

When an actual manifest or authoritative cargo record is unavailable, CPP estimates cargo using vessel deadweight, tanker subtype, current draft, historic ballast and laden drafts, terminal specialization, port sequence, speed, voyage pattern, destination, oil-grade density and comparable voyages. The result is shown as an estimate, a low-to-high range, a confidence score and an explanation of supporting signals.
